Duration of Assignment: Initial period of six (6) months, extendable up to one (1) year,

subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance.

I. Background

The Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the Government of the Republic of Korea established the Korea – AfCFTA Cooperation Fund (KACF) to support the implementation of the AfCFTA and strengthen economic cooperation between Africa and the Republic of Korea. The Fund supports initiatives in areas including trade facilitation, customs modernization, digital transformation, entrepreneurship development, institutional strengthening, human capital development, and knowledge exchange. One of the initiatives being implemented under the Fund is the Technical Support for Building Research Capacity of the AfCFTA Secretariat Project. The project seeks to strengthen the Secretariat's research, analytical, and data management capabilities through the establishment of a dedicated Research Division to support evidence -based implementation of the AfCFTA.

As implementation of t he AfCFTA deepens, the demand for high -quality research, trade analytics, policy analysis, and implementation monitoring has increased significantly. The Secretariat therefore seeks to strengthen its capacity to generate reliable data, provide policy advic e, monitor implementation, and support decision -making by AfCFTA institutions and State Parties. To support the effective implementation of the project, the AfCFTA Secretariat seeks to engage a Lead Senior Expert, Economic Policy and Trade Research to prov ide technical leadership for the establishment and operationalisation of the Research Division.
