About the Chevening Scholarship
The Chevening Scholarship is a fully funded postgraduate scholarship designed for outstanding future leaders. For Maldivian applicants, the programme provides an opportunity to study at a UK university while developing advanced academic knowledge, professional skills, and international experience. Scholars are expected to return to the Maldives after completing their studies and use their new knowledge and skills to contribute to their country. Fully Funded Master’s Study in the UK Chevening provides comprehensive financial support for successful scholars.
The scholarship package includes:
- Full tuition fees - Monthly living allowance - Return airfare to the UK - Additional grants for essential expenditure This support enables scholars to undertake a one-year master’s degree in the UK while reducing the financial burden associated with international postgraduate study. Additional Visa Travel Support Scholars may also be eligible for discretionary reimbursement of certain travel costs related to UK visa processing. This support may apply when an applicant is required to travel to another country to complete their visa application process. Because this reimbursement is discretionary, applicants should not assume that all visa-related travel expenses will automatically be covered. One-Year Taught Master’s Degree The Chevening Scholarship supports an eligible one-year taught master’s degree at a UK university. Applicants have the opportunity to select a course that aligns with their: - Career ambitions - Professional experience - Academic interests - Long-term goals - Development priorities of the Maldives Choosing an appropriate course is an important part of preparing a strong scholarship application. Choosing a UK University and Course Applicants can pursue their eligible master’s degree at any UK university, subject to the programme’s requirements. However, candidates must apply to three different eligible UK university courses. Applicants should choose courses carefully and consider how each programme relates to their career plans and their potential contribution to the Maldives. A strong course selection should provide a logical connection between the applicant’s previous experience, proposed study, and future professional goals. Return to the Maldives Requirement A fundamental condition of the scholarship is that successful scholars return to the Maldives after completing their studies. Scholars must commit to returning to the Maldives for a minimum of two years after the scholarship ends. The purpose of this requirement is to encourage recipients to apply the knowledge, skills, and experience gained in the UK for the benefit of their communities and country. Applicants should therefore consider how their planned master’s degree can contribute to their future work and the development needs of the Maldives. Who Can Apply?
