CONCEPT NOTE
Solar- Based Spring Pipe Water Supply Scheme (PWSS)
Village: Padariya
Gram Panchayat: Padariya
Block: Pushprajgarh
District: Anuppur, Madhya Pradesh
Implementing Agency: WaterAid
Beneficiary Households: 55 Households
Water Source: Perennial Spring
Proposed System: Solar-Assisted -Based Pipe Water Supply Scheme
1. Background
Padariya village of Padariya Gram Panchayat, Pushprajgarh Block, Anuppur District, is situated in a hilly and predominantly rural area where access to a reliable and sustainable drinking water supply remains a challenge. The village has a naturally available perennial spring, which has the potential to provide a sustainable source of drinking water for the local community.
However, the existing spring source is not adequately developed and connected to a systematic water supply system. The community therefore faces difficulties in accessing safe and reliable drinking water, particularly during periods of high water demand.
To address this challenge, WaterAid proposes to develop a Solar-Assisted -Based Spring Pipe Water Supply Scheme . The intervention will combine the existing perennial spring source with a 3 HP solar-powered pumping system for lifting water where required, followed by gravity-based conveyance and distribution to the beneficiary households.
2. Proposed Intervention
WaterAid will support the development of a sustainable PWSS by protecting and developing the existing perennial spring and establishing appropriate collection, pumping, filtration, storage and distribution infrastructure.
The proposed system will include:
Construction of 1 RCC Spring Box for protection and collection of spring water.
Construction of 1 RCC Filter Collection Tank for filtration and collection of spring water.
Installation of a 3 HP Solar Pump with complete solar pumping system for lifting spring water to the storage facility.
Provision of necessary solar panels, mounting structure, controller and associated accessories for operation of the solar pumping system.
Laying of approximately 1,300 m of main pipeline for conveying water from the source.
Laying of approximately 900 m of distribution pipeline for supplying water to the beneficiary areas.
Provision of a storage water tank for adequate storage and regulated distribution.
Construction of 12 tap stand platforms at suitable community locations.
Construction of 12 soak pits for safe disposal and management of wastewater from tap stands.
Installation of an automatic chlorination system to improve drinking water safety.
Provision of necessary valves, fittings, plumbing and allied works for efficient functioning of the PWSS.
The 3 HP solar pump will provide an independent and renewable energy source for water lifting, while the natural slope of the terrain will be utilized for gravity-based conveyance and distribution wherever technically feasible. This combination will reduce dependence on grid electricity and help minimize recurring energy costs.
3. Beneficiary Coverage
The proposed PWSS will benefit approximately 55 households of Padariya village.
The intervention will provide the targeted households with improved access to a reliable, safe and sustainable drinking water supply closer to their homes and community.
4. Objectives
The key objectives of the proposed intervention are:
To provide a reliable and sustainable drinking water supply to 55 households.
To protect and develop the existing perennial spring source .
To establish a solar-powered water lifting system using a 3 HP solar pump.
To utilize the natural elevation of the area for gravity-based water conveyance and distribution .
To reduce dependence on conventional electricity and minimize recurring energy costs.
To improve drinking water quality through filtration and chlorination .
To establish adequate water storage and community-level distribution infrastructure.
To strengthen community participation in the operation and maintenance (O&M) of the PWSS.
To ensure long-term sustainability and resilience of the village drinking water system.

7. Sustainability and Community Participation
For long-term sustainability, WaterAid will facilitate community participation and coordination with the Gram Panchayat and Village Water and Sanitation Committee (VWSC) .
The community will be encouraged to take responsibility for:
Protection and cleanliness of the spring source.
Regular monitoring of spring discharge and water availability.
Proper operation and basic maintenance of the solar pumping system.
Maintaining cleanliness around the spring, storage tank and tap stands.
Minor repair and maintenance of pipelines, valves and tap stands.
Regular monitoring of drinking water quality and chlorine residual.
Proper use and maintenance of the PWSS infrastructure.
Collective management of operation and maintenance requirements.
The use of solar energy will enhance the sustainability of the system by reducing dependence on conventional electricity. Community ownership and regular maintenance of the infrastructure will further support the long-term functionality of the PWSS.
8. Conclusion
The proposed Solar-Assisted -Based Spring Pipe Water Supply Scheme in Padariya village will provide a sustainable drinking water solution by utilizing the naturally available perennial spring source and renewable solar energy.
The intervention will integrate spring source protection, filtration, 3 HP solar-powered water lifting, storage, gravity-based conveyance, distribution, wastewater management and water quality treatment .
Through this intervention, 55 households will benefit from improved access to safe and reliable drinking water. The combination of solar pumping and gravity-based distribution will reduce dependence on conventional electricity, minimize recurring energy costs and strengthen the long-term sustainability of the village drinking water system.
The project will also promote community ownership, Gram Panchayat/VWSC participation and sustainable operation and maintenance of the PWSS.
