The Austrian Federal Ministry of Housing, Arts, Culture, Media and Sport, in collaboration with MuseumsQuartier Vienna, invites applications for the FOCUS INTERNATIONAL South Africa 2027 program. This opportunity supports six cultural workers or artists from South Africa to engage in a two-month internship at a leading art institution in Vienna, Austria. FOCUS INTERNATIONAL South Africa 2027 aims to provide young cultural professionals from South Africa with the chance to gain hands-on experience in Vienna’s vibrant art scene. Participants will not only engage in an internship but also benefit from personal mentoring and support offered by the MuseumsQuartier team. The program focuses on enriching participants’ professional skills and fostering international cultural exchange. Internship placements are available at various cultural institutions in Vienna, focusing on areas such as animated films, music export, activism and creative practices, contemporary art and sustainability, and photography. This program is significant as it strengthens cultural ties between Austria and South Africa, providing selected candidates with invaluable exposure to international art environments. It helps participants expand their professional networks and enhance their skills, contributing to their career development in the arts sector. What is the application deadline? The deadline is 9 November 2026, 23:55 CET. What are the benefits of the program? Participants receive a EUR 2,800 scholarship, flight cost coverage up to EUR 1,000, and accommodation in Vienna. Who can apply? Cultural workers and artists from South Africa aged 40 or younger with relevant education and work experience. What documents are required for the application?
