Background information / Compatibility requirements

The Texas Multipurpose Health Service (MPHS) Primary Healthcare Upgrades Project will improve the functionality, capacity and operational efficiency of the existing health service facility to better support current and future healthcare needs within the Texas community. The project includes the establishment of a new General Practitioner (GP) clinic within the existing hospital site, together with targeted refurbishment, reconfiguration and minor extensions to address identified clinical, administrative, staff amenity, security and storage deficiencies.

Establishing the GP clinic within the hospital site will provide opportunities for greater integration between primary and hospital-based healthcare services. The GP clinic will be able to utilise relevant existing hospital infrastructure and support facilities, including pathology and other shared clinical services, reducing the need to duplicate facilities and improving coordination between primary and acute care.

Texas MPHS is experiencing increasing demand for emergency and aged-care services. The proposed upgrades will therefore also improve the facility's capacity and functionality to support these priority service areas, including improvements to Emergency Department patient flow and triage, aged-care storage and supporting facilities, and associated staff and patient amenities.

The project will make efficient use of the existing building footprint by repurposing and reconfiguring existing spaces wherever practicable, supplemented by targeted new works where additional capacity is required. Key improvements include accommodation for the new GP clinic, improved administration and clinical support areas, additional staff and patient amenities, enhanced storage, establishment of an Emergency Department triage function, and improved security at the Community Health reception.

The works will be planned and delivered with consideration of the ongoing operation of Texas MPHS and the need to maintain safe and functional healthcare services throughout construction. The project will seek to minimise disruption to clinical and support services while delivering durable, compliant and fit-for-purpose outcomes.
