The Active Communities, Protected Rights, Sustainable Future project grants are part of the EEA Civil Society Fund in Hungary. It provides multi-year funding for projects that address important social and environmental challenges and enable local civil society organizations to develop long-term initiatives. What Does the Programme Support? Projects must contribute to at least one of five priority areas established by the Fund. Civil Society Participation in Democracy Projects can strengthen the participation of civil society organizations and citizens in democratic processes. Activities may focus on improving civic engagement, participation, public dialogue, or the ability of civil society actors to contribute to democratic decision-making. Information Integrity and Media Literacy This priority supports initiatives that improve people’s ability to understand, assess, and responsibly use information. Projects may address media literacy, information integrity, critical thinking, and related challenges affecting public participation and informed decision-making. Human Rights and Social Justice Projects can promote human rights and social justice, including efforts to combat discrimination. Activities may address equality, inclusion, protection of rights, and support for groups experiencing discrimination or social exclusion. Gender Equality and LGBTIQ+ Rights This priority supports initiatives advancing gender equality and LGBTIQ+ rights. It also includes projects related to sexual and reproductive health and rights and other activities that promote equality and protection from discrimination. Climate Action and Environmental Protection Projects can address climate action, environmental protection, and the transition toward a more sustainable economy and society. The priority also includes supporting a just green transition, ensuring that environmental transformation considers social and community needs. Funding Available The grants provide between €50,000 and €100,000 per project. A total of €10,000,000 is available under this call. Projects can use up to 5% of the grant for capacity-building activities. Capacity building can help organizations strengthen the skills, systems, knowledge, and organizational resources needed to successfully implement their projects. Project Duration Projects must be designed as multi-year initiatives.

The eligible project duration is:

- Minimum: 24 months.

- Maximum: 48 months.

Applicants should therefore develop projects with clear long-term objectives, realistic milestones, and sustainable outcomes. Who Can Apply? Eligible applicants are Hungarian civil society organizations that meet the programme’s legal and organizational requirements.

Eligible organization types include:

Applicants must:

- Be legally registered in Hungary. - Have been legally registered for at least one year before the application deadline. - Qualify as a micro- or small enterprise. - Have fewer than 25 employees. How to Develop a Strong Project Applicants should build their proposals around a clearly identified social, democratic, human rights, gender, information, or environmental challenge.

A strong project should explain:

- Which priority area or areas it addresses. - The specific problem or need. - Who will benefit from the project. - Why the proposed intervention is needed. - The activities that will be implemented. - Expected short- and long-term outcomes. - How progress and results will be measured. - How the project will create sustainable impact. - How partnerships will contribute to implementation, where applicable. - How the budget supports the proposed activities.
