Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia Research Stipend Program 2027

The Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia Research Stipend 2027 is an opportunity for social science researchers from these countries to undertake a research stay at the Stockholm Center for Global Asia, Stockholm University. The stipend aims to enhance understanding of development, democracy, and human rights in the region. Applications are open until 11 December 2026. This stipend was established by a donation from the former Association Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, aiming to support research that fosters solidarity and understanding of key themes in the region. The scholarship supports researchers who wish to explore topics related to development, democracy, and human rights, either within individual countries or in a comparative context.

Recipients of the stipend will receive:

Eligible applicants are researchers in the social sciences affiliated with universities or research institutions in Vietnam, Laos, or Cambodia. They may be at any stage in their academic careers but must focus on research topics aligned with the stipend’s objectives. Research proposals should address themes of democracy, development, and human rights in Vietnam, Laos, or Cambodia. Comparative studies involving these countries are also encouraged. The stipend provides a unique platform for researchers to advance their work in a supportive academic environment while contributing to significant regional themes. It fosters international collaboration and academic exchange, thereby enriching the research community’s understanding of Southeast Asia. Who can apply for the stipend? Social science researchers from Vietnam, Laos, or Cambodia affiliated with relevant institutions are eligible to apply. What expenses does the stipend cover? The stipend includes return airfare, accommodation, and a contribution towards living expenses. What is the application deadline? Applications must be submitted by 11 December 2026. When will the research stays occur? Research stays are scheduled for either April–June or September–November 2027. How are applications evaluated? Applications are assessed based on academic merit, relevance to the stipend’s aims, and research feasibility during the stay in Stockholm.
