Formålet med denne anskaffelsen er å etablere en ny brannstasjon i Oslo Sør som skal erstatte dagens Kastellet brannstasjon og styrke beredskapsdekningen i sør-østre del av Oslo. Etter gjennomført mulighetsstudie og utredninger er det besluttet at brannstasjonen skal etableres i Ljabruveien 125. Adressen tilhører del av gnr. 186 bnr. 1, en ubebygd del av tomten som ble regulert til formålet i 1991.

Brannstasjonen skal dimensjoneres for 40 ansatte inkludert 10 mannskaper i døgnberedskap, med seks oppstillingsplasser for brannbiler i garasje (vognhall), samt lagerarealer og vaskehall. I tillegg vil det være garderobefasiliteter, tekniske arealer, kontorarealer, treningsarealer, hvilerom og oppholdsarealer.
