Gasworks is inviting early-career contemporary visual artists based in Brazil who have previously participated in the PIPA Prize to apply for an eleven-week, fully funded residency in London. The residency is designed to support professional development, cultural exchange, artistic experimentation, and the development of new work. The selected artist will receive a private studio, accommodation, travel support, living expenses, materials funding, visa assistance, and professional development opportunities.
About the Gasworks Residency Programme
Gasworks’ residency programme brings artists from around the world to London for immersive and self-led residencies. Each year, up to 20 artists are hosted through the programme. Residents have the opportunity to research and develop new work, engage with London’s cultural environment, build professional relationships, and connect with local and international artists. The programme provides a supportive setting for artists to experiment with their practice while expanding their professional networks. Residency Details The 2027 residency will take place at Gasworks in London from 7 April to 22 June 2027. The residency will last for 11 weeks and will provide the selected artist with: - A private studio at Gasworks. - 24/7 access to the studio. - Single-room accommodation in a shared residency house. - Economy return flights. - Taxi transfers. - Visa costs and visa application support. - A weekly stipend of £175 for living expenses. - A materials budget of up to £800. - A prepaid travel card providing unlimited travel within central London. Professional and Artistic Support In addition to financial and practical assistance, the residency provides opportunities for professional development and artistic exchange. The selected artist will have access to: - Studio visits with Gasworks staff. - Studio visits with external professionals. - An Open Studio event. - Basic tools and AV equipment. - A dedicated residency page on the Gasworks website. - Administrative support during office hours. - Pastoral support during the residency. - Curatorial assistance during office hours. - Opportunities to engage with local and international artists. These opportunities are intended to help the resident develop their practice, research new ideas, and strengthen professional connections. Who Can Apply? The residency is specifically intended for early-career contemporary visual artists based in Brazil.
Applicants must:
- Be based in Brazil. - Be early-career contemporary visual artists. - Have previously participated in the PIPA Prize. - Have at least a moderate level of spoken English.
