Die Gemeinde Gemmingen mit dem Ortsteil Stebbach liegt etwa 16 km westlich von Heilbronn im nordöstlichen Kraichgau und ist Teil des Landkreises Heilbronn. Im Zuge der Kreis- und Gebietsreform wurde die Gemeinde Stebbach 1974 nach Gemmingen eingemeindet. Die seither jeweils noch bestehenden "Freiwilligen Feuerwehren" haben sich zusammengeschlossen und beschlossen ihre Einsatzkräfte und Ausstattung an einem gemeinsamen Feuerwehrstandort zu bündeln. Hierfür bedarf es eines neuen Feuerwehrgebäudes in einer zu beiden Ortsteilen günstig gelegenen Lage. Da dies auf den bestehenden aber ebenfalls zu erneuernden Bauhof an der Industriestraße zutrifft, wurde beschlossen, beide Neubauten mit der Möglichkeit Synergien zu nutzen an dieser Stelle zu errichten. Dabei erhält der Neubau der freiwilligen Feuerwehr 5 Fahrzeugboxen für 6 Fahrzeuge, der MTW (Mannschaftstransportwagen) und der RW (Rüstwagen) werden hintereinander abgestellt. Hinzu kommt ein separater Garagenstellplatz für ein Katastrophenschutzfahrzeug des DRK Ortsvereins. Der Bauhof benötigt neben Fahrzeugstellplätzen im Hofbereich auch Stellplätze für Winterdienstfahrzeuge in einer beheizbaren Fahrzeughalle sowie eine Werkstatt für die Fahrzeuge.
