Die Landesgartenschau 2028 ist ein zentrales Stadtentwicklungsprojekt der Stadt Donauwörth mit dem Ziel, die bestehenden Freiräume entlang der Donau und Wörnitz nachhaltig und gestalterisch hochwertig aufzuwerten, zu vernetzen und als öffentliche Räume für alle Generationen zu sichern. Teil der Landesgartenschau Donauwörth 2028 sind mehrere neue Spiel- und Aufenthaltsbereiche. Im zukünftigen Donaupark entsteht ein identitätsstiftender Themenspielplatz, der sog. "Helikopterspielplatz", mit den Schwerpunkten Fliegen - Bewegung - Abenteuer. Dieser soll Kindern ein vielfältiges, motorisch anregendes und fantasievolles Spielerlebnis ermöglichen und gleichzeitig einen hochwertigen Aufenthaltsraum für Begleitpersonen bieten. Als ortsansässiges Unternehmen und bedeutender Arbeitgeber prägt Airbus den Standort Donauwörth und ist eng mit der Identität der Stadt verbunden. Daher liegt es nahe, diese besondere Verbindung als Ausgangspunkt für das Grundthema des Spielplatzes zu wählen und die damit verbundene Identifikation im Gestaltungskonzept erlebbar werden zu lassen - ohne dabei eine technische oder gegenständliche Nachbildung von Luftfahrzeugen anzustreben.
Lots Lot 1 — Donaupark West - Helikopterspielplatz: Gegenstand der Ausschreibung sind ausschließlich die prägenden Spielgeräte des Helikopterspielplatzes. Diese sollen als zusammenhängende Spielgerätefamilie entwickelt werden und folgende Elemente umfassen: - begehbarer Helikopter als identitätsstiftendes Hauptspielgerät, - Spielturm im Stil eines Towers oder Kontrollturms, - Hangar als Spiel- und Aufenthaltsbereich, - verbindende Flow-Elemente, z. B. zum Balancieren, Klettern und Bewegen. Die Gesamtfläche des Spielplatzes umfasst rund 1.130 m². Davon entfallen ca. 500 m² auf die eigentliche Spielfläche, rund 135 m² auf eine adaptive Spielwiese sowie etwa 150 m² auf Aufenthaltsflächen. Der Spielplatz ist für mehr als 100 Kinder sowie über 70 Begleitpersonen ausgelegt.
