Die Stadt Rottweil hat sich mit der Durchführung der Landesgartenschau 2028 zum Ziel gesetzt, neben der Attraktivierung des Neckarraumes durch die Revitalisierung des stark verbauten Neckars, vor allem auch die Mobilität und dort v.a. die alltagsrelevanten Verbindungen maßgeblich zu verbessern. Der hier ausgeschriebene Rad- und Fußwegeabschnitt auf dem ehemaligem Bahngelände und dem derzeitigen Bahngelände (so genannter "Gleisweg") ist Teil einer Wegeverbindung zwischen dem Ortsteil Göllsdorf bzw. dem Stadtteil "Altstadt" und der historischen Rottweiler Innenstadt sowie einer weiterführenden Verbindung in Richtung des Siedlungsgebiets "In der Au" und von dort in Richtung des Gewerbegebiets Neckartal.
