DTU ønsker at købe et parkeringssystem til DTU’s campus i Lyngby. Med et parkeringssystem mener DTU et teknisk system, der anvendes til at registrere og styre brugen af en DTU’s parkeringspladser. Systemet har til formål at give et løbende overblik over, hvor mange parkeringspladser der er optaget, og hvor mange der er ledige. Registreringen skal ske ved hjælp af kameraer eller induktive spoler, som er placeret ved ind- og udkørslerne til parkeringspladserne. Hver gang en bil kører ind på parkeringspladsen, tælles den som en optaget plads, og hver gang en bil kører ud, frigives der tilsvarende en plads. På den måde kan systemet løbende beregne, hvor mange parkeringspladser der er til rådighed. Oplysningerne skal vises på digitale parkeringsskilte ved indkørslen eller langs adgangsvejene, hvor bilisterne kan se, hvor mange pladser der er ledige, før de kører ind på området.
