The Netherlands Film Fund invites applications for funding to support the international co-production of feature films, feature-length animation films, and documentaries. About the International Co-production Scheme

International co-production provides filmmakers with opportunities to work across national borders and combine creative, technical, and financial resources. The Netherlands Film Fund recognises international co-production as a way to: - Enhance filmmakers’ artistic vision. - Broaden the financial base of film projects. - Increase the international visibility of Dutch films. - Promote creative exchange. - Encourage technical exchange. - Strengthen professional knowledge. - Help Dutch filmmakers gain a stronger position in the global market. The scheme specifically supports Dutch minority co-productions. What Types of Films Are Eligible? The funding scheme supports three main categories: - Feature films. - Feature-length animation films. - Documentaries. The applicable maximum contribution depends on the type of project and, for certain categories, the production budget. How Much Funding Is Available? The maximum contribution varies according to the production budget and film category. For eligible films with a production budget of up to €5 million, applicants can request a maximum contribution of €250,000. For films with a production budget above €5 million, applicants can request up to €450,000. Additional category-specific limits apply: - Feature films with a first-time director: Up to €175,000.

- Documentary film plans: Up to €90,000.

Applicants should identify the funding limit applicable to their particular project category and production budget. Funding for Feature Films Feature films are eligible under the international co-production scheme.

For eligible feature films:

- Projects with a production budget up to €5 million can apply for up to €250,000. - Projects with a production budget above €5 million can apply for up to €450,000. - Feature films directed by a first-time director can receive up to €175,000. Funding for Feature-Length Animation Films Feature-length animation films are also supported through the Dutch minority co-production scheme. Depending on the production budget, eligible animation projects can apply for the applicable maximum contribution of €250,000 or €450,000. Funding for Documentaries Documentary projects can apply for support under the international co-production scheme. Documentary film plans can apply for a maximum contribution of €90,000. The scheme therefore provides a dedicated funding opportunity for Dutch minority documentary co-productions. Who Can Apply? Applications must be submitted by a Dutch minority co-producer representing an eligible production company.

The production company must:

- Be established for at least two years. - Be established in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, an EU or EEA member state, or Switzerland. - Continuously produce audiovisual works. - Not be organised as a sole proprietorship or VOF. - Meet the relevant previous-production requirement for the application category. Production Company Requirements The applicant must represent a production company rather than applying as an individual sole proprietor. The production company must have been established for at least two years in one of the eligible locations: - The Kingdom of the Netherlands. - An EU member state. - An EEA member state. - Switzerland. The company must also continuously produce audiovisual works. Previous Production Experience The producer must demonstrate relevant previous production experience. Depending on the application category, the producer must previously have been the majority producer for at least one feature film or documentary that received a theatrical release in the Netherlands. The applicable previous-production requirement depends on the category under which the application is submitted. Dutch Minority Co-production Requirement The scheme is specifically intended for Dutch minority co-productions. Applications must therefore be submitted by a Dutch minority co-producer representing an eligible production company. The co-producer’s role and production experience must meet the requirements specified for the relevant funding category.
