The Rotterdam Photo Dutch Talent Project Grant Programme 2027, presented in collaboration with the Amarte Fonds, supports emerging photographers in the Netherlands to create new photographic work responding to the theme “Vibrance – The Pulse of a Living World.” Five selected artists will each receive a €3,000 production grant, along with exhibition opportunities, curatorial guidance, networking, publication, and promotional support through Rotterdam Photo 2027 and Rotterdam Art Week. What Is the Rotterdam Photo Dutch Talent Project Grant? The Dutch Talent Project Grant Programme is an opportunity for emerging photographers to develop new artistic work for presentation during Rotterdam Photo 2027 and Rotterdam Art Week. The programme is organized by Rotterdam Photo in collaboration with the Amarte Fonds. It is designed to help early-career photographers move an artistic idea from development toward a professional work-in-progress exhibition. Applicants are expected to interpret the theme through their own photographic practice rather than simply illustrating the theme literally. Projects may explore personal, cultural, environmental, political, or societal questions where there is a meaningful connection with the concept of vibrance and a changing world. Ongoing promotional support from Rotterdam Photo and its partners. The grant therefore combines financial support with professional development and public exposure. Who Is Eligible? The programme is intended for emerging photographers who are at an early stage of their professional artistic careers.

Eligible applicants include:

Third-year photography students at Dutch art academies. Fourth-year photography students at Dutch art academies. Recent graduates of photography programmes. Recent graduates of related visual arts programmes. Self-taught photographers with up to five years of professional experience. Recent alumni must have graduated since 2022. Geographic Eligibility Applicants must have a connection with the Netherlands through one of the following circumstances: Currently based in the Netherlands. Currently studying in the Netherlands. Completed their relevant education in the Netherlands. The programme therefore supports emerging photographic talent connected to the Dutch creative and visual arts sector. Can Students Apply With Existing Projects? Yes. Projects originally developed as part of an academic programme can be eligible. However, the project must be further developed beyond its original academic context. Applicants should demonstrate how the new version represents meaningful artistic development rather than simply submitting an unchanged student assignment. What Kind of Projects Are Supported? The grant supports the creation of new photographic work responding to the 2027 festival theme. Applicants can develop projects that demonstrate: Strong photographic practice. Original artistic ideas. Clear conceptual thinking. Personal or societal relevance. A meaningful relationship with the festival theme. Potential for development into an exhibition. The programme is particularly suitable for photographers who already have a strong project concept but need financial and professional support to develop it further. What Is a Work-in-Progress Exhibition? A work-in-progress exhibition presents a developing artistic project rather than requiring the work to represent a completely finished long-term body of work. This format gives emerging photographers an opportunity to: Test their artistic ideas publicly. Receive professional feedback. Present developing work to audiences. Build exhibition experience. Connect with curators and other artists. Further develop their photographic practice. Selection Criteria A selection committee consisting of experts from Amarte and Rotterdam Photo will evaluate applications. Submissions will be assessed on several key factors. Artistic Quality The committee will consider the strength, originality, and quality of the applicant’s photographic work. Conceptual Clarity Applicants should communicate their project idea clearly. The committee should be able to understand: What the project is about. Why the project matters. What the applicant wants to explore. How the photographic approach supports the concept. Personal or Societal Relevance Projects should demonstrate meaningful connections to personal experiences, contemporary society, or broader social themes. Relevance to “Vibrance – The Pulse of a Living World” The proposed work should demonstrate a clear and thoughtful relationship with the 2027 festival theme. Applicants do not necessarily need to use the word “vibrance” literally. Instead, they should explain how their project explores concepts such as energy, movement, transformation, or the changing nature of contemporary life. How the Selection Process Works The programme follows a competitive selection process.

Applications are reviewed by the selection committee.
