1. SCOPE OF WORK

For the purpose of this contract “Work” shall include the statutory biennial dry dock maintenance of tugboats Orca and Lizibuko in the Port of East London for a once off period.

2. BACKGROUND

For compliance, certification, and safety of all harbour crafts, are subjected to a statutory dry dock maintenance as stipulated by the Merchant Shipping Act No.57 of 1951. Dry docking is a biennial maintenance service which comprises of underwater structure maintenance, overboard valves maintenance, hull thickness inspection , tank maintenance and propulsion health check which cannot be facilitated during normal operation. The crafts are revenue generating assets requiring maintenance to be carried out to ensure compliance with legislation. The statutory biennial drydocking of crafts is to conduct mandatory maintenance to obtain a two-year hull certificate from the regulatory body, South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA).

3. DURATION OF CONTRACT

The contract period will be for a once off period with the duration of each tugboat not exceeding six (6) weeks.

4. TO BE SUPPLIED BY THE BIDDER

The bidder must have specified skilled labour (Refer to Technical evaluation), with previous drydocking experience for the tasks to be performed . Bidder shall supply all necessary consumables, labour, tools, plant and equipment, PPE, demarcating signage, skips including waste disposal certification and transport required for the proper c ompletion of the works. …
