Details
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the European Union have launched the Innovative Finance Challenge (IFC) to support municipalities in Armenia, Moldova, North Macedonia, and Ukraine. This initiative aims to help cities design and implement innovative financing solutions to address local development challenges. The deadline for applications is 13 November 2026. The Innovative Finance Challenge seeks to empower municipalities by providing the necessary resources to explore and implement novel financing mechanisms. The initiative encourages cities to address specific financial bottlenecks that hinder local development projects. By overcoming challenges related to municipal revenue, finance access, private-sector engagement, and community involvement, municipalities can enhance their investment readiness and foster sustainable growth. Selected municipalities will receive up to US$20,000 in financial assistance alongside tailored technical advisory support to develop and implement their innovative financing strategies. Participating cities must provide a minimum co-financing of 10% of the financial support they receive, which can be in cash or in-kind. Eligible applicants for the IFC are municipalities located in Armenia, Moldova, North Macedonia, and Ukraine. There are no further specifications regarding eligibility; however, municipalities must demonstrate the capacity to address a specific financing bottleneck through their proposed solutions. The IFC supports various financing mechanisms, including: Municipalities are encouraged to propose additional innovative solutions that align with the program’s objectives. This initiative is crucial for municipalities aiming to overcome financial barriers that limit their development potential. By fostering innovative finance mechanisms, cities can improve public services, stimulate economic growth, and enhance the quality of life for their residents. The program also promotes collaboration between public and private sectors, enhancing investment opportunities and community participation. For detailed application instructions, applicants should refer to the official guidelines provided by the UNDP and European Union. Interested municipalities should thoroughly review the official guidelines to understand the application process and ensure compliance with all requirements. Eligible applicants are encouraged to submit their proposals before the deadline to take advantage of this opportunity to enhance local development through innovative financing solutions.
