Formålet med denne anskaffelsen er oppgradering av Korsatunnelen med tilhørende overbygde byrom i den sørlige enden, kalt Sørenden. Sørenden ligger der Kipervikgata møter Keiser Wilhelms gate. Korsatunnelen er en overdekket “bygate” og utgjør en snarvei for gående i Ålesund sentrum. På dagtid binder tunnelen sørsida og nordsida av byen sammen. På kveldstid stenges den. Det er behov for bygningsmessige tiltak i tunnelen ut fra beredskapsmessige hensyn: blant annet må vannlekkasje ved tunnelens innganger utbedres og belysning skiftes ut. Tunnelen har behov for utbedring av himling, vegger og gulv. Siden dekket i Sørenden er en forlengelse av dekket i Korsatunnelen, er det naturlig å oppgradere deler av dekket her også. Prosjektet skal gjennomføres som en totalentreprise i henhold til NS 8407. Prosjektet er har planlagt oppstart umiddelbart etter kontraktsignering med detaljprosjektering, og prosjektet er planlagt gjennomføringstid på 6 måneder fra godkjent byggesøknad. Prosjektet kan ikke påbegynnes fysisk før julemarked er avholdt i korsatunellen i desember.
