MiCT is calling for proposals for a freelance Translators to/from Arabic, Burmese, Dari, French, Georgian, Kurdish, Pashto, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and/or Ukrainian to/from English to support journalism projects in written and simultaneous translation. MiCT invites interested and qualified persons to submit an application by Wednesday August 26th 2026 23.59CET.

1. Introducing MiCT

Media in Cooperation and Transition (MiCT) is a non-profit organisation delivering expert media services in complex and challenging contexts with passion, precision and agility. Through our collaborative work with our partners, we foster transparent, inclusive and fair dialogue supporting resilient societies that thrive. Across three continents and 15 countries, MiCT facilitates the training of journalists and media producers, programme and content development, radio and film production, magazine and book publishing, media research and monitoring, in addition to supporting the financial viability of our partners.

2. Description of the role

To support the effective project implementation MiCT is looking for freelance translators in the above-mentioned languages. Tasks include: - Written translation per 100 words - Verbal simultaneous translation during online meetings and trainings per hour A maximum of 10.000 words and 30h of simultaneous translation are expected per language. Due to ongoing needs assessment amongst project participants and adaptable project implementation no minimum workload can be guaranteed. The role description pertains to a freelance, remote and needs-based translation service. The contract duration will be the date of signature until 30 June 2027.

4. Application Requirements

Successful applicants should be able to provide proof of the following: - Fluency in at least one of the above mentioned translation languages and English - Proven translation experience - Knowledge of vocabulary pertaining to journalism and press freedom - Professional journalistic experience preferred - Experience working with NGOs and iNGOs preferred - Flexible availability between September 2026 and June 2027 How to apply
