Details

Sverige saknar ett långsiktigt och sammanhållet nationellt system för omhändertagande och återvinning av fritidsbåtar och tvåtaktsmotorer med förgasare. Det finns dock flera aktörer som tar emot och skrotar fritidsbåtar mot en ersättning från den som lämnar in båten. Ansvaret och kostnaderna som är förknippade med skrotning ligger hos den sista ägaren och kan i vissa fall medföra att uttjänta fritidsbåtar överges. Det finns redan många fritidsbåtar utan känd ägare både på kommunal mark och hos ideella föreningar (som båtklubbar). Idag kan det finnas upp till 400 000 båtar som närmar sig sitt ”bäst-före-datum” och upp till 35 000 redan övergivna fritidsbåtar. Fritidsbåtar som inte omhändertas och återvinns kan bidra till ytterligare nedskräpning och förorening av natur och vattenmiljöer. Många av båtarna är över 40 år gamla och närmar sig därför det förväntade slutet på deras livslängd. De flesta är plastbåtar som har dumpats eller riskerar att dumpas i naturen.
