Details

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) invites specialized consulting firms to submit their proposals to analyze relevant sustainable livestock initiatives implemented in the Amazon region of Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru and Suriname.

The main objective is to generate a technical reference document that systematizes good practices, technical models, governance schemes and lessons learned, serving as a strategic input for the design of future public policies, programs and interventions that accelerate the transition towards sustainable production models and the conservation of natural resources in the Amazon basin.

1. Scope and Approaches to Analysis

- Productive systems analyzed: Comprehensive evaluation of initiatives (implemented since 2015) of silvopastoral systems, agroforestry, regenerative, low-carbon and climate-smart livestock farming.

- Institutional and financial dimension: Analysis of governance schemes, financing mechanisms, economic incentives, technical assistance, rural extension, and community and institutional capacity building.

- Gender and youth mainstreaming: Evaluation of the processes of technological adoption, social inclusion and enabling factors that promote long-term sustainability.

2. Key Activities

- Mapping and methodological design: Complement the existing inventory of strategic actors/platforms and design the instruments for the collection of primary and secondary information.

- Field information gathering: Contact and interview executing entities, cooperation agencies, research centers, the private sector and producer associations.

- Diagnosis of barriers and enabling factors: Identify technical, financial, socio-cultural and institutional constraints that hinder the adoption of sustainable practices.

- Virtual focus groups: Develop at least three (3) virtual participatory workshops with various actors (government, banking, small/medium/large producers, indigenous communities, women and youth).

3. Expected deliverables

- Output 1 — Methodological document: Detailed work plan, schedule, case selection criteria and information collection instruments.

- Output 2 — Technical Report on Initiatives (2015–present): In-depth characterization of actors, governance, technical approaches, financing, gender/youth, and lessons learned in the 7 Amazonian countries.

- Output 3 — Report on barriers and recommendations: Contextualization of technical, financial, institutional and sociocultural constraints with concrete proposals for address.

- Output 4 — Consolidated outcome document: Executive synthesis of findings, validation with the IDB team, and actionable recommendations to guide future regional investments and public policies.
