Residency Open Call for Artists Based in the Baltics

The Gasworks Residency offers contemporary visual artists based in Lithuania, Latvia, or Estonia an eleven-week, fully funded opportunity to develop their artistic practice in London. The selected artist receives studio space, accommodation, travel, visa support, living and materials funding, and professional support, followed by a solo exhibition at Gasworks in London in 2028.

About the Gasworks Residency

The Gasworks Residency is designed for contemporary visual artists from the Baltic countries who are at an important stage in their careers and have not previously had the opportunity to work in London. The residency provides dedicated time, space, and resources for artists to: - Develop their artistic practice. - Undertake research. - Experiment with new ideas. - Explore new approaches to their work. - Build professional networks in London. - Engage with artists, curators, and cultural professionals. - Present and discuss their work in a supportive environment. The residency is self-led and process-based, allowing the selected artist to determine the direction of their research and creative development. Residency Dates and Exhibition The selected artist will participate in an eleven-week residency at Gasworks in London.

- Residency dates: 7 July to 21 September 2027

- Residency duration: 11 weeks

- Location: Gasworks, London

- Follow-up exhibition: July–September 2028

- Exhibition format: Solo exhibition at Gasworks

The residency will be followed by an opportunity to present the artist’s work through a solo exhibition at Gasworks the following year. What Does the Gasworks Residency Provide? The residency is fully funded and includes a range of financial, practical, and professional support.

The selected artist will receive:

- 24/7 access to a private studio. - Single-room accommodation at Gasworks’ Residency House. - Economy return flights between the artist’s home country and London. - Taxi transfers connected with travel to and from London. - Coverage of visa costs. - Support with the visa application process. - Weekly living stipend of £175. - Materials budget of up to £800. - Prepaid travel card for unlimited travel within central London. - Access to basic tools. - Access to audiovisual equipment. - Administrative support. - Pastoral support. - Curatorial support from Gasworks staff. Who Is Eligible? The residency is open to contemporary visual artists who meet the programme’s specific eligibility requirements.

Applicants must:

- Be contemporary visual artists. - Be based in Lithuania, Latvia, or Estonia. - Have not previously had the opportunity to work in London. - Be comfortable discussing their artistic practice in English. - Be at a stage in their career where dedicated time and resources could support further development. The self-led structure allows the artist to shape their own research and creative process while benefiting from the support available through Gasworks.
