Details

Sunwater is seeking responses to this Request for Information (RFI) for the provision of Electricity Retail Supply from suitably qualified electricity retailers to support the development of its future electricity procurement strategy for a portfolio of large contestable electricity connections associated with its regional pump station operations.

Sunwater is considering a range of procurement options for electricity supply including traditional contracting arrangements and procurement models that support evolving renewable energy objectives. Respondents are invited to provide feedback on the practical implementation, benefits and risks associated with these approaches.

Background information / Compatibility requirements

Sunwater’s existing electricity retail supply arrangement for its large contestable sites expires on 31 December 2028. The portfolio comprises 33 large contestable sites (pump stations) consuming approximately 147 GWh per annum.

Sunwater is undertaking a Request for Information (RFI) process to obtain indicative pricing, commercial information and market feedback to support the procurement of is future electricity retail supply arrangements for its large contestable electricity portfolio commencing on 1 January 2029. Respondents are requested to provide information and pricing for contract terms ranging from three (3) to seven (7) years.

The electricity provided under any electricity retail supply contract is for pumping water to irrigation, urban and industrial customers. Electricity represents one of Sunwater’s largest operating expenses. Accordingly, Sunwater seeks to establish a procurement approach that delivers value, competitive pricing, appropriate risk allocation, and the flexibility to support future operational requirements.

Desired Outcomes ('Nice to haves', Conditions & Warranties, SLA's, Project benefits): Through this RFI, Sunwater is seeking to:

  • obtain indicative electricity and environmental pricing information;
  • understand available retail contract structures and commercial arrangements;
  • understand retailer appetite for medium and longer-term electricity supply contracts;
  • understand renewable energy and environmental market product offerings;
  • obtain feedback regarding commercial terms and conditions; and
  • inform Sunwater’s future electricity procurement strategy and subsequent procurement activities.
