GVB is als stadsvervoerder verantwoordelijk voor het beheer, onderhoud en de vervanging van alle roltrappen en liften die zich bevinden in en rond de metrostations van Amsterdam, inclusief enkele tramhaltes. Het totale areaal omvat 177 roltrappen en 93 liften, die in de afgelopen veertig jaar zijn opgeleverd en in gebruik genomen. Deze veel al van elkaar verschillende installaties zijn gerealiseerd in opdracht van de gemeente Amsterdam en na oplevering overgedragen aan GVB voor instandhouding.
