SRD Center is seeking experienced Qualitative Researchers / Key Informant Interviewers to support a mixed-methods research assignment examining migration dynamics, migration decision-making, irregular migration, information needs, and related contextual factors in Iraq. The qualitative component will complement a large quantitative survey and stakeholder mapping exercise. It will include in-depth interviews with relevant experts, non-governmental stakeholders, community actors, and/or Iraqi returnees from Europe in Baghdad and Basra. The Qualitative Researcher will be responsible for conducting high-quality interviews, accurately documenting respondents' perspectives, identifying key themes, and supporting qualitative analysis and reporting.

Tasks:

The Qualitative Researcher / KII Interviewer will: - Review qualitative interview guidelines and research objectives. - Provide contextual input into the adaptation of interview guides. - Participate in briefing and training sessions before fieldwork. - Support identification and recruitment of relevant interviewees where required. - Coordinate and schedule interviews with selected participants. - Conduct professional and confidential in-depth interviews. - Use appropriate probing techniques to obtain detailed and relevant information. - Explore migration experiences, motivations, information sources, risks, decision-making processes, migration routes, changing migration dynamics, and related issues. - Where applicable, gather information on changing smuggling trends and migration patterns. - Obtain informed consent and comply with ethical and data protection procedures. - Take comprehensive interview notes and/or support recording arrangements where consent has been provided. - Prepare accurate interview summaries or transcripts. - Support translation of qualitative findings into English when required. - Conduct initial coding and thematic analysis as requested. - Identify emerging themes, patterns, contradictions, and contextual explanations. - Support triangulation of qualitative findings with quantitative survey results and stakeholder information. - Participate in research team debriefings. - Contribute to drafting qualitative findings and analytical sections of the final report. - Maintain strict confidentiality regarding participants and sensitive information.

Qualifications:

Candidates should have:

- University degree in sociology, anthropology, social sciences, migration studies, political science, development studies, psychology, international relations, or another relevant field. - Demonstrated professional experience in qualitative research. - Strong experience conducting key informant interviews and/or in-depth interviews. - Demonstrated ability to use qualitative probing techniques and document complex narratives accurately. - Previous research experience related to migration, displacement, return and reintegration, human mobility, livelihoods, youth, or vulnerable populations is highly desirable. - Experience working in Iraq, particularly Baghdad and/or Basra, is strongly preferred. - Familiarity with migration dynamics and socio-economic conditions in Iraq is an advantage. - Strong analytical and report-writing skills. - Ability to maintain neutrality and manage sensitive discussions professionally. - Fluency in Arabic is required. - Strong English skills are highly desirable, particularly for preparation of English summaries or transcripts. - Ability to work independently and meet deadlines. - Strong understanding of confidentiality, informed consent, safeguarding, and research ethics.
