PAIE Scholars Program: Empowering Researchers in LMICs to Evaluate AI for Social Good

The PAIE Scholars Program, offered by the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), supports researchers from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) in Asia and Africa. It aims to develop their skills in conducting rigorous evaluations of AI applications for social good. The program includes training, a conditional award of US$1,000, and opportunities for further support. Applications open on 17 September 2026 and close on 16 October 2026. The PAIE Scholars Program is designed to empower researchers in LMICs to lead evaluations of AI-enabled interventions that address social and economic challenges. The program focuses on building capacity in randomized evaluation methods and AI applications, fostering the development of innovative research ideas that can inform policy. Participants will receive a US$1,000 award upon successful completion of the training and meeting program requirements. This award is contingent on passing a proctored assessment and submitting a revised concept note. Additional support for proposal development, travel, and research mentorship may be available for selected scholars.
