New Reservoir at Bamaga

Northern Peninsular Area Council is looking to expand the amount of storage available at their Bamaga Reservoir site.

At present there are 2 x 1.6ML concrete tanks that receive water via the Clear Water Pump Station at our Water Treatment Plant.

We would like to increase supply by at least another 1.6ML in size.

The top water level would need to be the same as the existing reservoirs.

This will be a design/ construct project, with the design needing to be approved by Council before proceeding to the construction phase.

We are expecting the design and planning work to happen during the upcoming wet season, with construction starting in May/ June 2027.

Level Sensors and Outlet Flow Meter will be provided as part of this contract. Council will ensure these are integrated into our SCADA system.

Background information / Compatibility requirements

Lined reservoirs will not be considered.

The inlet will be teed off the 150mm common inlet line for the other 2 reservoirs.

The outlet will feed into the 250mm common outlet line from the other 2 reservoirs.

The design, construction and commissioning of the reservoir will be in accordance with the Unity Water Specification Pr9821.

The location of the site is Lot 107 on SP284242. Latitude: -10.899929, Longitude: 142.38935.

Council will provide a laydown area close to the construction site for storage of materials. There is limited internal storage for sensitive items so containers may be considered to keep some items out of the weather.

Council can provide a donga as a site office. There is power to the site that can be utilised. Council can also provide some portable toilets for the site.

Council will provide accommodation for the duration of the project.

There is limited plant and equipment available for hire for this project, but there may be opportunity for short term hire of items such as tippers, excavators, skid steers and s grader. Council does not own a crane or a manitou.

Desired Outcomes ('Nice to haves', Conditions & Warranties, SLA's, Project benefits): This project will provide additional storage for the 5 NPA communities. At present we the daily usage across the NPA is around 5.5ML/day but we only have 3.2ML of storage at Bamaga which supplies the whole area. There are a further 4 x 1.6ML tanks at Umagico, Injinoo, New Mapoon and Seisia, which are all gravity fed from Bamaga.

Tenders will be assessed on Price, Guaranteed serviceable life of the structure, experience in construction work in remote locations, employment and or training opportunities for local people.
