MiCT is calling for proposals for a freelance Arabic and/or English speaking MHPSS expert or organisation that can provide psychosocial support in the framework of its program "MiCT Fellowship for Critical Voices 2026-2027" in East Africa, funded by the German Federal Foreign Office. This is a freelance position running from August 2026 - June 2027.MiCT invites interested and qualified persons to submit proposals by 17.08.2026.
About MiCT
Media in Cooperation and Transition (MiCT) is a non-profit organisation delivering expert media services in complex and challenging contexts with passion, precision, and agility.
Through collaborative work with partners, MiCT fosters transparent, inclusive, and fair dialogue supporting resilient societies. Operating across three continents and 15 countries, MiCT facilitates journalist training, media content production, research, monitoring, and supports the financial sustainability of media partners.
About the Project
Since 2022, the MiCT Fellowship for Critical Voices has supported at-risk journalists and media professionals from conflict regions, enabling them to continue their essential work in safety. The programme is part of the Hannah Arendt Initiative and a member of the Journalists in Distress Network. It offers stipends, security and equipment support, (mental) health services, legal aid, relocation, and professional development through regional hubs.
Description of the role:
To support Fellows who face immediate psychological trauma and mental health issues, MiCT is looking for a MHPSS expert to provide individual and group psychosocial support sessions online/offline for media makers in East Africa. Organisations and individuals are welcome to apply.
Application Requirements:
Successful applicants should be able to provide proof of the following:
Proven psychosocial counselling qualifications In-depth knowledge of trauma related support preferred Experience analysing and coordinating MHPSS needs Availability to provide group therapy sessions online Experience working with journalists and people in active crisis and conflict regions preferred Counselling available in Arabic and/or English language preferred Working knowledge of English is required.

Budget:
Hourly rate for MHPSS counselling sessions in EUR incl VAT Workshop fee for group session, including training material and pre/post preparation time
