The Major Project Stream of Saskatchewan’s Multicultural Initiatives Fund provides grants of up to $15,000 to eligible nonprofit organizations for projects that preserve and advance cultural traditions while promoting anti-oppression, intercultural connections, and Truth and Reconciliation. Priority is given to projects serving underserved communities and equity-denied groups, with applicants required to demonstrate community need, participation, partnerships, and cultural engagement. What Is the Major Project Stream? The Major Project Stream supports cultural projects in Saskatchewan that strengthen cultural identity, encourage intercultural understanding, and contribute to more inclusive communities. The program is part of the Multicultural Initiatives Fund and focuses on three broad areas: Anti-oppression Intercultural connections Truth and Reconciliation Projects may involve ethnocultural, multicultural, First Nation, Métis, intercultural, or cross-cultural activities. Partnerships with cultural communities

Funding Available Eligible organizations can request a maximum grant of $15,000 through the Major Project Stream. Funding is intended for eligible project activities that demonstrate clear community benefit and align with the objectives of the Multicultural Initiatives Fund. What Types of Projects Are Supported? Projects should involve eligible cultural activities and demonstrate a meaningful connection to the communities they intend to serve. Applicants must demonstrate that the project responds to a community-identified need rather than simply being an activity developed without community consultation. Who Is Eligible? Eligible applicants are registered nonprofit organizations in Saskatchewan that meet the program’s organizational requirements.

Organizations must:

Have a primary cultural mandate in arts, heritage, multiculturalism, or cultural industries; or Demonstrate significant engagement in cultural activity. Have been registered for at least one full fiscal year before the application deadline. Be in good standing with Information Services Corporation (ISC). Have no overdue grant follow-ups. Provide a signed copy of their most recent annual financial statement submitted to ISC. Applicants should also demonstrate meaningful involvement of the cultural communities connected to the proposed project. Priority Applicants and Communities Priority may be given to projects located in: Northern Saskatchewan Rural communities Underserved communities Additional consideration is given to projects led by equity-denied communities and cultural organizations, including: Priority is also given to organizations that have not received Multicultural Initiatives Fund Project grants during the previous two funding rounds or have not received significant operational funding from SaskCulture or Sask Lotteries during the previous year. Community Engagement Requirements Applicants are expected to demonstrate genuine community participation in project planning and delivery. Where a project involves particular cultural groups, the applicant is responsible for securing appropriate: Agreement Understanding Permission Consent Commitment This requirement helps ensure that cultural activities are respectful, community-led, and appropriately connected to the people represented by the project. Who Is Not Eligible? The following applicants are not eligible: Federal or provincial government departments and operations Crown corporations Organizations receiving operational funding from the Government of Saskatchewan Organizations exclusively promoting religious viewpoints Organizations exclusively promoting political viewpoints Nonprofit professional organizations without an ethnocultural, multicultural, First Nation, or Métis focus What Projects Are Not Eligible? Competitive events are not eligible for funding. Applicants should ensure that proposed activities have a clear cultural, community, intercultural, anti-oppression, or Truth and Reconciliation purpose rather than being primarily competitive activities. 1. Identify the Community Need

Clearly explain the issue or opportunity affecting the Saskatchewan community your project will serve.

2. Define the Project Activities

Provide a clear description of the activities you intend to deliver. Show how relevant cultural communities will participate in planning, implementation, and evaluation. Where required, document appropriate community agreement, permission, consent, or commitment.

4. Prepare the Budget

Develop a realistic project budget that clearly connects expenses to proposed activities. The maximum funding request is $15,000.

5. Confirm Organizational Eligibility

Before submitting an application, confirm that your organization: Is registered in Saskatchewan. Has operated for at least one full fiscal year. Meets the cultural mandate or significant cultural engagement requirement. Is in good standing with ISC. Has no overdue grant follow-ups. Can provide its latest signed annual financial statement.
