Universitetet i Oslo skal bygge opp et nytt forskningsmiljø innen nevromorf maskinvare og energieffektiv kunstig intelligens. Aktiviteten skal koble materialutvikling ved Senter for materialvitenskap og nanoteknologi (SMN) med kompetansen innen krets- og systemdesign ved Institutt for informatikk. Et sentralt behov er å kunne karakterisere elektriske komponenter fra tidlig material- og komponentutvikling til mindre arrays og demonstratorer. Dette gjelder blant annet ferroelektriske tunnelkontakter, ferroelektriske transistorer, resistive minnekomponenter og andre komponentkonsepter med relevans for nevromorf elektronikk.
