About the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program
The Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program is designed for experienced professionals, university faculty, and researchers from Kazakhstan who wish to pursue advanced research in the United States. The programme welcomes proposals across all academic disciplines. It provides scholars with an opportunity to conduct independent research while engaging with their U.S. host institution and participating in professional and cultural activities. The grant period follows the academic calendar of the host institution. Research Duration Selected scholars may conduct research in the United States for: - One semester. - Two semesters. Research in law-related fields is limited to one semester. The exact grant period will align with the academic calendar of the scholar’s U.S. host institution. Priority Research Areas Proposals are welcomed from all disciplines. However, priority will be given to research projects focused on: - Countering violent extremism. - STEM education. - Economics. - International trade. Applicants working in these areas are encouraged to demonstrate how their proposed research contributes to their field and professional goals. What Support Will Selected Scholars Receive? Selected Fulbright Visiting Scholars will receive support for their research period in the United States.
The support package includes:
- Round-trip travel between Kazakhstan and the U.S. host institution. - A monthly stipend for living expenses. - Medical insurance. - Access to professional enrichment opportunities. - Access to cultural enrichment opportunities during the stay. This support is intended to help scholars focus on their research while also participating in academic and cultural activities during their time in the United States. Who Can Apply? The programme is intended for experienced professionals, university faculty, and researchers from Kazakhstan who meet the eligibility requirements.
Applicants must:
- Be citizens of Kazakhstan. - Be residing in Kazakhstan at the time of application. - Hold a doctoral degree or equivalent professional qualification. - Have sufficient English language proficiency to achieve the goals of the proposed research project. English Language Requirement Applicants must have English language proficiency sufficient to successfully carry out the goals of their proposed research project. U.S. Host Institution Requirement Applicants must submit an invitation letter from a potential U.S. host institution as part of their application. The host institution provides the academic environment in which the scholar will conduct the proposed research. Applicants should therefore identify a suitable U.S. institution and establish the necessary academic connection before submitting their application. Application Requirements Applicants are required to submit a range of academic, professional, and supporting documents.

- A detailed project statement. - A CV. - A bibliography. - A letter of support from the applicant’s home institution. - Three reference letters. - An invitation letter from a potential U.S. host institution. - A copy of the applicant’s passport.
