Het Centrum voor Genetische Bronnen Nederland beheert een unieke collectie met onder andere zeldzame oude landrassen en wilde verwanten van diverse landbouw- en groentegewassen. Deze collectie speelt een cruciale rol in het waarborgen van Genetische diversiteit en het ondersteunen van duurzame landbouw. Om de collectie in stand te houden en te versterken, is periodieke zaadvermeerdering noodzakelijk.

Het CGN streeft naar een samenwerking met gespecialiseerde vermeerderaars die in staat zijn om hoogwaardige zaden te produceren volgens de strikte protocollen en richtlijnen van het CGN.
