Course Design and Facilitation: "Training for Transformation" Inclusivity, gender equality and solidarity: from internal change to societal impact

1. Background

This Terms of Reference outlines the scope, responsibilities, and deliverables for the design and facilitation of a "Training for Transformation" course, part of the Funding Fairer Futures Project (2024-28). This project's overall goal is the: Creation of a more inclusive society, in which civil society and empowered citizens feel responsibility for local and global sustainable development and take action for climate justice and inclusivity.

2. Objectives

The objective of the course is to support participants in building transformative leadership skills through a combination of in-person and online learning. This course aims to explore issues related to power dynamics and prejudice, for example decolonisation, discrimination, anti-racism, anti-ableism, feminism, localisation, etc. The hope is that a Training for Transformation course will facilitate space for learning and reflection sessions to generate ideas on power-shift, inclusive practice, locally-led decision-making, partnership-building across different groups / CSO's working on climate justice. A space will also be created for Global South subgrantees specifically to attend, with some as expert co-facilitators to share their experiences and perspectives. All Participants will present their stories of change as a result of this process at a final online networking event.

Building on the key learning outcomes from an initial session held in October 2025, these sessions will explore core themes such as intersectionality, decolonisation, and localisation, with a focus on how these principles can be meaningfully applied in climate action and integrated into the work of our sub-grantees.

While the sessions will be designed in collaboration with Global South and Eastern European sub-grantees, proposed topics include:

• Decolonisation and Localisation in Climate Action

• Understanding Colonial Legacies in Environmental Governance

• Localisation Principles and Shifting Resources

• Approaches to Equitable North–South Partnerships and Collaboration

• Embedding Intersectional Approaches in Climate Programming

• Connecting movements: Inclusive Climate Justice

3. Scope of Work

Expert/ co-facilitator will:

● Under the overall guidance of CBM and WECF, the expert/ co-facilitator will support the team in co-design and co-deliver the course. This will include:

o One in person session to take place in Brussels on Wednesday 7th October 2026 (3 hours)

o Six online training sessions (1.5 hours)

o Three online reflection sessions (1 hour)

o One facilitation of a participant learning journey during a final online sharing and networking event

● Collaborate with Global South and Eastern European partners to ensure diverse and inclusive perspectives and to engage with some persons as co-facilitators for specific sessions.

● Apply and model inclusive, participatory, and power-sensitive learning methodologies in all sessions

● Capture and synthesize learning outcomes, challenges, and stories of change for the purpose of reflection, reporting, and future planning
