MiCT is calling for proposals for a freelance Arabic speaking Community manager in the framework of its program "MiCT Fellowship for Critical Voices 2026-2027", funded by the German Federal Foreign Office. This is a freelance position running from August 2026 - June 2027 to be based in Nairobi, Kenya. The total number of working days will run up to 120, the exact number will depend on project implementation. MiCT invites interested and qualified persons to submit proposals by 16.08.2026.

About MiCT

Media in Cooperation and Transition (MiCT) is a non-profit organisation delivering expert media services in complex and challenging contexts with passion, precision, and agility.

Through collaborative work with partners, MiCT fosters transparent, inclusive, and fair dialogue supporting resilient societies. Operating across three continents and 15 countries, MiCT facilitates journalist training, media content production, research, monitoring, and supports the financial sustainability of media partners.

About the Project

Since 2022, the MiCT Fellowship for Critical Voices has supported at-risk journalists and media professionals from conflict regions, enabling them to continue their essential work in safety. The programme is part of the Hannah Arendt Initiative and a member of the Journalists in Distress Network. It offers stipends, security and equipment support, (mental) health services, legal aid, relocation, and professional development through regional hubs.

Description of the role

To support the Fellows from Sudan and East Africa, MiCT is looking for a Community manager to support project implementation on a freelance basis:

Tasks include, but are not limited to:

Organise the onboarding of all Fellows, including needs/interest assessment and introducing exiled fellows to the host countries' environment. Identify suitable project partners and experts to accompany the fellowship based on the interest assessment. Set up and moderate various social media channels for the fellow community. Function as the main point of contact for fellows for all programme elements, from personal support to finance. Oversee community development and support for Fellows. Coordinating and supporting the productions of fellow journalists in exile if they are able to during the duration of the entire Fellowship. Close coordination with local partners in-country and in exile. Available for regular meetings with Fellows and the MiCT headquarter team in Berlin.

4. Application Requirements

Successful applicants should be able to provide proof of the following:

Experience working with journalists in crisis and conflict contexts Thorough understanding of the global media landscape, particularly in Sudan and its neighbouring countries, preferred Fluency in Arabic and English is required Experience communicating under stressful conditions Familiarity with discourse around exile and crisis journalism, media freedom and critical, non-discriminatory development communication Proven experience organising media related events and trainings required Journalistic experience preferred Flexibility and teamwork The position
