Communications Officer - Venezuela

Position Summary CORE is seeking an experienced Communications Officer based in Caracas, Venezuela with strong writing, photography, videography and interviewing skills to support the documentation, production, and dissemination of compelling content for CORE's Venezuela Earthquake Response. The Communications Officer will document and highlight CORE's real-time humanitarian programs in a timely and consistent manner and will serve as the main point of contact for journalists, facilitating and coordinating in-country media interviews. Working closely with CORE's HQ Communications and Development teams in Los Angeles, the Communications Officer will help secure the content needed to highlight programmatic impact by interviewing beneficiaries, maximizing positive media coverage, and drafting human-interest stories and other materials that convey both CORE's response and the needs of affected communities. Responsibilities Communications Strategy & Content - Photograph and film video to document programmatic impact. - Interview beneficiaries/staff/volunteers/partners to capture and communicate ongoing needs keeping in mind communications ethics principals in humanitarian aid - Draft human-interest stories, social media posts, talking points and other communications materials that highlight CORE's work and the needs of affected communities. - Obtain informed consent from participants prior to documentation, via signed consent forms for in-depth interviews or verbal consent (release forms) in appropriate emergency contexts. - Adhere to CORE's Communications Ethics and Safeguarding Principles at all times. - Ensure the consistent, timely delivery and accurate archiving of photos, video, and corresponding captions on Canto, CORE’s digital asset management platform. Media Relations - Serve as the main point of contact for local journalists; facilitate and coordinate in-country media interviews. - Maximize positive media coverage and fundraising opportunities by highlighting the humanitarian situation and CORE's emergency operations. - Designate one to two local CORE spokespeople to speak with media as needed and provide media training. - Coordinate with Wayuu Taya Foundation's media team on joint communications efforts. Core Branding - Support field office in ensuring signage, promotional items including tees, caps, stickers, car magnets and more, plus any needed partner branding is seamlessly produced and integrated into the local response. Program Communications Support & Design - Design and produce Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials — flyers, posters, FAQs, one-pagers, and job aids — created to the field and program team's needs to support community messaging (e.g., eligibility, program processes, feedback and complaint channels, PSEA/safeguarding). - Support reporting design: turn program data and updates into clear, well-designed reporting products — SitRep layouts, infographics, fact sheets, and donor/partner one-pagers. - Work directly with the program team to scope, draft, lay out, translate (Spanish/English), and finalize each product so it is accurate, accessible, and appropriate for the intended audience. - Produce print- and digital-ready files, manage versions and sign-off, and deliver on the timelines the program requires Requirements Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, including at least 2 years working on humanitarian programs. Background in emergency humanitarian communications methodologies and best practices is a plus. This position requires operational flexibility to meet sudden and unpredictable needs, including the ability to travel within Venezuela on short notice. - Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. - Strong, demonstrable videography and video-editing expertise. Must have own professional equipment. - Strong photography and photo-editing capabilities. Must have own professional equipment. - Skilled in creative video editing techniques (montages, cuts, sound syncing, lower-third captions) to produce content optimized for a variety of digital channels. - A keen eye for impactful, compelling storytelling in sensitive and dynamic humanitarian contexts. - Able to communicate effectively and build relationships with colleagues and partners. - Solid understanding of communications ethics best practices when operating in vulnerable situations with communities in crisis. - Highly creative, innovative, and enterprising; able to drive projects independently. - Able to meet crisis communications needs on tight deadlines while balancing competing demands from HQ. Language Requirements Fluency in Spanish and English is mandatory.
