This funding opportunity will be administered through a Global Affairs Canada’s (GAC’s) Department-Initiated – Multiple Invitations (DI-MI) mechanism . Only organizations invited by GAC are eligible to apply. Application period September 22, 2026 – November 17, 2026 Invited organizations have between September 22, 2026, and November 17, 2026, at 12:00 (noon) Eastern Time, to apply.
Objectives
Contribute to more secure, low-carbon and climate-resilient economies in Sub-Saharan Africa through effective and sustained adaptation and mitigation benefits for women, men, youth, and their communities, particularly those most vulnerable to climate impacts.
Description The initiative seeks projects that expand proven approaches, strengthen local ownership and sustainability, and generate lasting adaptation benefits while contributing to lower-carbon development pathways where relevant. Projects must take a gender-responsive approach to project design and implementation.

- Estimated project value: CAD $10,000,000 – CAD $25,000,000
- Number of projects to be funded: Zero or up to six
- Primary focus: Climate change adaptation, climate-smart agriculture, nature-based solutions
- Total funding envelope: Up to CAD $100,000,000
Eligibility (by invitation only)
Organizations invited to submit an application met the following requirements: Canadian organizations that received funding under Partnering for Climate and within the last 5 years:
- Demonstrated the strongest:
- Project management and implementation; - Strategic alignment with Canada’s international climate priorities; - Ability to rapidly design and deploy new programming; and, - Prospects for sustainability and institutional anchoring. - Demonstrated the highest potential to scale up or deepen previously achieved results. - Implemented international development projects that simultaneously contributed to: - Inclusive climate-smart agriculture; - Inclusive nature-based solutions for climate change adaptation; and, - Climate-resilient livelihoods targeting the most vulnerable groups. - Managed projects in sub-Saharan Africa with a value exceeding CAD $10,000,000. - Partnered with one or more of the following as part of international development projects: the Canadian private sector, academic or research institutions, and/or the philanthropic community.
