The Charlemont Grant Programme is inviting applications from early career researchers in Ireland to undertake short-term international research visits in the humanities, social sciences, or sciences. About the Charlemont Grant Programme

The Charlemont Grant Programme provides financial support for early career researchers undertaking short-term international research visits. The programme also aims to encourage the development of new research collaborations and international academic networks. Ireland-Wales Funding Stream An additional Ireland-Wales funding stream is available for the 2026/2027 round. This stream supports Irish early career researchers collaborating with Welsh higher education institutions.

How Much Funding Is Available? Applicants can request between €1,500 and €3,000. The grant can contribute toward eligible expenses directly connected to the proposed research visit.

Funding may support:

- Travel. - Subsistence. - Accommodation. - Project planning. - Research assistance, excluding salaries. - Small research-related items such as software or photocopying. Up to €500 can be requested for small items such as software or photocopying. Eligible Research Visit Costs Only costs directly related to the research visit are eligible. Applicants must provide an itemised budget showing how the requested funding will be used.

The programme is open to early career researchers living and working in Ireland, including researchers based in Northern Ireland.

Applicants must:

- Have passed their PhD viva. - Have received their PhD on or after 10 February 2020. - Be living and working in Ireland, including Northern Ireland. The programme also provides eligibility extensions in certain circumstances.

Eligibility Extensions

Extensions to the eligibility period are available for researchers whose career progression has been affected by: - Parental leave. - Caring responsibilities. - Long-term illness. Independent Scholars Applications from independent scholars are welcome. Independent scholars must include a letter of support from an independent academic researcher as part of their application.
