About the Youth Athlete Scholarship Program
The Youth Athlete Scholarship Program supports young athletes from the City of Fremantle who are pursuing opportunities to compete at national or international sporting levels. The program recognizes that young athletes may benefit from more than competition opportunities alone. It therefore combines practical resources with education and peer connection across different sporting disciplines. Support is intended to help eligible athletes participate in competitions while developing healthy training and nutrition habits and connecting with other young athletes. Scholarship Benefits Successful scholarship recipients will receive several forms of support.
The package includes:
- $200 gift card. - 10-session youth or Teen Fit pass at Fremantle Leisure Centre. - Access to a group nutrition education session. - Opportunities for peer connection with other athletes. These benefits are designed to provide young athletes with practical assistance as well as opportunities to improve their knowledge and connect with peers participating in different sports. Support for National and International Competition The program is specifically intended for young athletes participating, or seeking to participate, at national or international sporting competitions. Applicants must have been selected or be seeking selection to compete at one of these levels. Evidence of selection is required as part of the application process. This requirement helps demonstrate the applicant’s connection to national or international competition opportunities. Training and Fitness Support The scholarship includes a 10-session youth or Teen Fit pass at Fremantle Leisure Centre. This provides successful applicants with access to a structured fitness resource as part of the scholarship package. The program therefore combines competition support with opportunities for young athletes to engage in additional fitness activities. Nutrition Education Successful applicants will also receive access to a group nutrition education session. Nutrition education can provide young athletes with an opportunity to improve their understanding of nutrition in the context of sporting participation. The group format also creates an opportunity for athletes from different sports to learn together. Peer Connection Opportunities The program provides opportunities for scholarship recipients to connect with other athletes across different sports. Peer connection can help young athletes build relationships with others who are also working toward competitive sporting goals. The program therefore combines individual support with a broader community experience for participating athletes. Who Can Apply? Applicants must meet the program’s eligibility requirements.
Eligible applicants must:
- Be a resident of the City of Fremantle. - Be under 19 years of age, or under 25 and a full-time student. - Have been selected or be seeking selection to compete at a national or international level. - Provide evidence of selection. - Be able to participate in program components delivered locally. Applicants should ensure they meet all eligibility conditions before submitting their application. Age Eligibility The program has two age pathways.
Applicants can qualify if they are:

Applicants who fall within the applicable age category should also meet the other program requirements, including residency and national or international competition eligibility. Young athletes from outside the City of Fremantle should not assume that participation in a local sporting activity alone meets the residency requirement. This requirement applies to applicants who have been selected or are seeking selection for national or international competition. Applicants should ensure that the required supporting evidence is included with their application rather than submitting an incomplete application.
