Details

The PHODAR Biennial 14th Series Awards Competition, organized by the PHODAR Foundation in Bulgaria, invites photographers worldwide to submit entries under the theme “Traces Remain.” This competition seeks to explore how photographs capture traces of reality and the passage of time, as inspired by Susan Sontag’s _On Photography_. The deadline for submissions is 1 January 2027. The PHODAR Biennial is an international photo festival that encourages photographers to interpret and document the lasting marks that people, events, and experiences leave on the world. This year’s theme, “Traces Remain,” is inspired by the Bulgarian novel by Pavel Vezhinov, encouraging participants to delve into personal and social narratives. Winners of the PHODAR Biennial will receive monetary awards in euros, once the PHODAR Foundation receives the funding. Prize amounts are detailed on the official PHODAR website. Winners will also have their works printed and displayed in exhibitions, with costs covered by the PHODAR Foundation. The PHODAR Biennial provides a platform for photographers to showcase their work internationally, engage with contemporary themes, and gain recognition in the photographic community. It offers an opportunity to reflect on the impact of time and memory through visual art. Are multiple entries allowed? Each photographer can submit only one series. What genres are accepted? Any genre is accepted if it fits the theme, including documentary and conceptual photography. Can I submit fewer than 8 images? No, the minimum requirement is 8 images. Are collaborative collections allowed? Yes, collaborations with other photographers are permitted. What if my project started before 2025? Long-term projects that continued or further developed after 1 January 2025 may include earlier photographs. Interested photographers should carefully review the official guidelines and submit their entries by the deadline. Visit the PHODAR website for further details and submission instructions.
