The Hack for Social Cause Youth Tech Challenge is a national competition empowering young Indians aged 18–29 to develop technology-driven solutions to social challenges across diverse thematic areas. Launched under the VBYLD 2027 initiative, the challenge aims to mobilize young innovators to use technology and practical problem-solving to address critical societal issues. It seeks to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world impact while fostering innovation among youth in support of the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.

About Hack for Social Cause Youth Tech Challenge

Hack for Social Cause is a flagship national challenge designed to encourage young people to develop practical technology-based solutions for social good. The challenge provides participants with opportunities to transform ideas into solutions addressing real-world problems in communities across India.

Who Can Participate? The challenge is open to Indian youth aged 18–29 years. Participants are encouraged to bring together their technical knowledge, creativity, and understanding of social challenges to develop solutions that can create meaningful community impact. The competition is designed to provide young innovators with an opportunity to move beyond academic concepts and apply their skills to real-world problems. What Are the Thematic Areas?

Rural Development and Livelihoods Participants can develop technology-driven solutions addressing challenges related to rural communities and livelihoods. Projects may focus on improving opportunities, services, access, or economic outcomes for rural populations through practical innovation. Education and Skill Development The education and skill development theme encourages solutions that improve learning opportunities and help people develop skills relevant to education, employment, and future opportunities. Youth innovators can explore how technology can make education and skill development more accessible and effective. Healthcare and Wellbeing This theme focuses on technology-driven approaches to healthcare and wellbeing challenges. Participants can develop solutions that respond to community needs and explore innovative ways of improving access, awareness, support, or wellbeing outcomes. Governance and Civic Technology The governance and civic technology theme focuses on using technology to improve civic participation and public services. Participants are encouraged to consider how digital tools can help communities engage with governance and address civic challenges. Environment and Sustainability

The theme encourages innovations that respond to local environmental needs while supporting more sustainable practices and outcomes. Digital Inclusion Digital inclusion focuses on addressing barriers that prevent individuals and communities from benefiting from digital technologies. Participants can explore solutions that expand digital access, participation, skills, and opportunities for underserved populations. AI and Emerging Technologies The challenge also encourages young innovators to explore artificial intelligence and emerging technologies as tools for solving social problems. Solutions should focus on practical applications of technology that address genuine community or societal needs. Digital Safety The digital safety theme focuses on challenges associated with safe participation in an increasingly connected digital environment. Participants can develop solutions that help individuals and communities better understand, navigate, and manage digital risks. Elderly Care This theme encourages technology-driven solutions addressing the needs of elderly people. Innovations can focus on improving support, accessibility, wellbeing, independence, or other challenges faced by older adults. Assistive Technology Participants can develop technologies that help improve accessibility and independence for people who face different forms of functional or participation barriers. The theme encourages practical innovations that can improve everyday experiences and inclusion. Disaster Mitigation The disaster mitigation theme focuses on technology-based solutions that can help communities prepare for, respond to, or reduce the impact of disasters. Participants are encouraged to consider locally relevant challenges and develop practical solutions with potential social value. Cash Prizes and Recognition The top five teams at the national level will receive cash prizes.

The prize structure is:

- First Prize: ₹75,000.

- Second Prize: ₹50,000.

- Third Prize: ₹25,000.

- Fourth Prize: ₹15,000.

- Fifth Prize: ₹15,000.

In addition to the cash awards, all national finalists receive certificates of excellence. Mentors and coordinators involved in the challenge are also recognized with certificates.
