Research Study in selected districts of Maharashtra for understanding Migration

Pathways in Sugar Supply Chain”

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is an intergovernmental humanitarian organization established in 1951 and is committed to the principle that humane and orderly migration benefits both migrants and society.

Maharashtra is the second biggest sugar producing state in India after Uttar Pradesh and is also very vulnerable to climate change effects, as extreme climatic events like irregular rainfall, heat waves and prolonged dry spells are increasingly common. Such climate change events have had a significant impact on the rural community. To address these issues, Coalition for Responsible Sugarcane India (CRSI), Indian Sugar & Bio-Energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) are implementing a joint programme for - aimed at Creating Pathways for Safe, Orderly and Responsible Migration for Ensuring Social Sustainability in Sugar Supply Chain in Maharashtra, India (COSMOS).

For this, IOM is looking for a qualified, committed, and experienced Research Service Provider for identifying sugarcane work value chains based on the profiling of the target beneficiaries and facilitate in better understanding of the context and of the linkages between migration, labour practices, and rural livelihoods and thus, recognizing the current resilience level of the targeted communities engaged in the sugarcane work. The Research Service Provider is expected to have following background:

Qualifications:

Researchers in the team with at least 2 to 3 years of experience with PhD in Migration,Agriculture Science, Social and Political Sciences, Economics, Development Studies, or a related field from an accredited academic institution.

Researchers in the team having at least 1 to 2 years’ experience with master’s degree and bachelor’s degree in the field of Social Sciences, Environmental studies, Agriculture Science, migration mobility or a related field from an accredited academic institution.

Experience:

Must have relevant experience in the migration sector, with knowledge of relevant global, regional, and national priorities and issues;

Deep knowledge of sugarcane supply chain and its supply chain coordination

Demonstrable experience in qualitative and quantitative data collection, analyses and research methodologies, which includes report writing and data representation;

Specialized knowledge of and experience in gender mainstreaming and gender-sensitive research methodologies is a distinct advantage;

Working with grassroots partners, local community groups, local government stakeholders and UN organizations working on similar issues and projects in Telangana.

Skills:

Strong communication strategy.

Excellent drafting, analysis and coordination.

Fluency in English, Telugu and working proficiency in Hindi.
