Background on project and partnership

PCI India and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) are partnering under the Shakti Saarthi project to strengthen systems for multi-sectoral response to gender-based violence (GBV). The partnership is centred on improving the quality and accessibility of survivor-centred services by strengthening institutions, building the capacities of frontline service providers, promoting disability inclusion, enhancing community engagement, and supporting pathways for long-term rehabilitation. Within this broader effort, a key focus of the project is on strengthening economic empowerment opportunities for women residing in selected Shakti Sadans. By connecting women to skills, livelihoods, employment, and entrepreneurship opportunities, the project aims to support their social and economic reintegration and help them move towards greater independence, dignity, and sustainable recovery.
